Made famous in 1836 when the people of Texas tried to sever
ties with Mexico, the mission
was overrun by Santa Anna and his 5000 man army. The Alamo
fell only after 187 brave men, including James Bowie and Davy
Crockett perished. Bolstered by the battle cry “Remember
the Alamo”, General Sam Houston defeated Santa
Anna six weeks later, forcing him to sign a treaty granting
Texas its independence.
Today
The Alamo, located in the heart of San Antonio, has
become one of America’s greatest symbols of heroic courage
and freedom.
